Why Responsible Parasite Control Matters to Me
Freedom Worming Services was created in memory of my horse, Robbie - Freedom Robin
Robbie was a Welsh Section D who was by my side for 17 years. We grew up together and shared countless adventures, and in later years our partnership became even stronger through natural horsemanship.
In 2024, Robbie began suffering repeated episodes of colic. Despite veterinary investigations, treatment, and careful management, the episodes continued. Further testing revealed inflammation within his intestines, which the veterinary team believed was likely linked to parasite damage.
This came as a shock. I had always followed best-practice parasite control recommendations—testing before treating, regular poo-picking, pasture management, and targeted worming. Yet Robbie consistently showed evidence of tapeworm exposure.
While completing further professional training in equine parasite control, I learned more about the complex lifecycle of tapeworm and how horses can become repeatedly exposed through contaminated grazing environments. It helped me understand that parasite control is not just about individual horses—it requires a responsible, yard-wide approach.
Sadly, Robbie's health continued to decline and we made the difficult decision to say goodbye in 2025.
His story inspired me to establish Freedom Worming Services. My goal is to help horse owners make informed, evidence-based decisions about parasite control, reduce unnecessary worming, protect the effectiveness of existing treatments, and ultimately improve equine health and welfare.
If sharing Robbie's story helps even one horse avoid the challenges he faced, then his legacy will continue to make a difference.
